Tyler's working schedule this year pretty lame. For example, his first rotation was a month of working nights. NIGHTS. That means he slept most of the day and was gone all night. It was ROUGH. And by ROUGH I mean hellish. For everyone. The kids kept saying he was going nocturnal which was pretty accurate. Now he's on a more regular schedule (if you consider regular to be 12 hour days, leaving the house at 5:30am and not getting home until 8 at night). But, there are some weeks that are better than others but for the most part the kids and I are kind of feeling like he's missing out on a lot of stuff. He rarely gets even one weekend day off and will mostly get just ONE random day off in a week. BUT, when he does have a weekend day off we really try to make the most of it. One of our favorite things to do is to explore a new park. One of the great things about living in North County is that there are literally hundreds of parks to check out. Every time I turn a corner there is another park I didn't know was there. Getting to be outside with my family makes me really happy!
The other thing we did this summer before it got crazy and Tyler had to start working nights was swim. We hit up the beach and the pool and had so much fun. It's so nice that the kids know how to swim now!
If we can get through this year (through June of 2014) our lives will get SO SO much better. I'm pretty happy Tyler's specialty will give him weekends off, always. That is HUGE. So we'll keep trudging through until we get to that sweet spot!
